Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
